Stormy weekend ahead
The weekend starts on stormy notes. A low-pressure system will produce a severe weather outbreak in the central U.S. Friday. Southern Minnesota rides the northern edge of the thunder zone.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Global Forecast System model shows rain and some thunderstorms likely across our region Friday evening. Then watch on the map below as rain changes to snow especially in western Minnesota through Saturday and Sunday.

Right now, the risk zone for any severe storms Friday creeps into southeastern Minnesota just south of the Twin Cities.

Overall snowfall accumulations look light right now in the Twin Cities. But a few inches of spring slop is quite possible in western and central Minnesota.
Stay tuned.
