Wind advisory continues into Friday night; cooler temperatures for Saturday

Blustery northwest winds are blowing across the state Friday, with gusts reported over 60 mph! While the winds will gradually lessen through the evening, gusts will remain over 30 mph. Cooler air will follow the front, bringing chillier temperatures for Saturday.

A wind advisory continues for a majority of the state until 6 p.m. Friday night.

Multiple reports indicate wind gusts exceeding 50 to 60 mph across Minnesota. Here’s a sampling:

  • Odessa, 64 mph

  • Frazee, 63 mph

  • Graceville, 60 mph

  • Park Rapids, 58 mph

  • Richfield, 56 mph

  • Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, 55 mph

  • Alexandria, 54 mph

Winds will gradually lessen through Friday night, but gusts greater than 30 mph will continue.

Temperatures Friday night are expected to dip into the chilly teens and single digits above zero. Along the international border, temperatures could drop into the single digits below zero.

Saturday morning’s wind chills will range from single digits above and below zero, with temperatures in the teens below zero expected up north.

Temperatures will return to seasonal averages on Saturday, ranging from the upper 20s to low 30s in southern areas, and the teens in northern Minnesota. Expect bright sunshine and light winds throughout the day.

Warming temperatures again starting Sunday

Our cooldown will be brief as we see high temperatures on Sunday approaching the 40s and 50s once again.

Monday is expected to bring warmer temperatures, with highs reaching the 50s. It’s possible we could see our first 60-degree reading in southern Minnesota.

Our next potential storm system is expected to bring a mix of rain and snow near the region from Tuesday into Wednesday. We’ll be monitoring it closely as it approaches.
