The current deep freeze will break by Thursday, with temperatures rising into the double digits. Sunny skies and a warmer weather pattern will bring 30s and 40s back to the forecast for the upcoming weekend.
Clearing skies with double-digit highs
Cloud cover will begin to clear by midmorning, and Thursday will bring plenty of sunshine as temperatures climb into the double digits. While west-central Minnesota may still see highs in the single digits, warmer weather is definitely on the way!
Thursday night could bring another round of sub-zero temperatures. If that happens, February will have experienced 13 nights with temperatures dropping below zero.
The cold weather is extending from Canada all the way to the Gulf Coast, with widespread record-low temperatures possible. The central and eastern parts of the country are in the grip of a deep freeze.
The weekend will bring seasonal temperatures on Saturday in the low 30s, and 40s by Sunday. Areas near the Buffalo Ridge in southwestern Minnesota could hit 50 degrees by Monday.
There are no significant mentions of precipitation in the forecast for the foreseeable future. Northern Minnesota may experience a light wintry mix on Sunday, but overall, expect quiet conditions for most of the weekend.
