The bitter cold air mass begins to depart over the next 24 hours. Much warmer air moves in for the weekend and next week.
Cold Wednesday, then temps warm quickly
Highs Wednesday will still be well below normal, mostly in the single digits above zero. Parts of western Minnesota will remain subzero.

We’ll have more clouds around Wednesday and northeastern Minnesota will see light snow showers. In fact, a fresh coating of snow, up to 1 inch is likely in the Arrowhead region into Wednesday night.

Temperatures won’t be quite as cold Wednesday night, but still below zero. Northern and western Minnesota will again see temperatures drop into the teens below zero.

Highs in the teens become more widespread Thursday along with a return to brighter skies.

We are still on track for a significant warmup this weekend with highs returning to the 30s and 40s and persisting into next week. Highs Sunday will be into the 40s across southern Minnesota.

Monday and Tuesday could even bring highs into the low 50s across southwestern Minnesota. That would be a swing of 70 degrees from lows of 20 below zero Tuesday morning to Monday afternoon, less than a week!
