A slight disturbance will bring light snow chances, primarily to areas near and east of the metro area, on Saturday night, with only minor accumulations expected. High pressure will then settle in, ushering in a harsh arctic air mass that will dominate the week, bringing extremely cold temperatures.
Light snow chances Saturday night
The final snowfall totals for our Valentine’s Day storm are in. A broad area across the metro and southeastern Minnesota received between 1 and 4 inches of snow, while northwestern Wisconsin and the Duluth region saw closer to 6 inches.

Another weaker disturbance will pass through on Saturday night, bringing a slight chance for light snow showers. Accumulation will be minimal, with less than an inch expected for areas near and east of the metro.

Plummeting temperatures
Low temperatures on Saturday night will dip into the single digits above zero in the metro area, while colder air will settle over central and northern Minnesota, with lows plunging to the teens and 20s below zero.

Sunday will bring plenty of sunshine, but temperatures will remain chilly, with most of the state experiencing single digits above zero. Northwestern Minnesota, however, will likely struggle to rise above zero.

An extreme cold watch will go into effect late Sunday night through Monday morning for west-central and parts of northern Minnesota.

Wind chill values will be coldest Monday and Tuesday morning, with values between 20 and 40 degrees below zero.

Temperatures will stay cold through mid-week, with slow warming bringing us back into the teens by the end of the week. There’s also a slight chance we’ll see some 30s by next weekend.
