After our recent snowfall, how far are we behind on snowfall for the 2024-25 winter season?Let’s take a closer look at our current snow totals for the season.
Where we stand
From Feb. 1 to Feb. 9, snowfall across the state ranged from a few inches in the south to over 10 inches in the north, with the majority of that snow falling on Feb. 8.

Snow depths vary across the state. Northern Minnesota ranges from 12 to more than 16 inches, while central Minnesota has 6 to 12 inches. Southern areas of the state have less than 4 inches.

The Twin Cities region has received 14.2 inches of snow as of Feb. 10, putting us nearly 15 inches behind average. Typically, from October through January, the area receives about 30 inches of snowfall, with February usually adding another 9.5 inches.

Snow chances this week
With the jet stream to the south and surface high pressure to our north, several systems will pass by to the south, bringing a chance for light snowfall accumulation.
Monday's system will bring a quick 2 to 4 inches of snow to our southwestern counties, while other areas south of Interstate 90 may receive around an inch.

On Wednesday, a large weather system will move well to our south, but our southern counties may still receive a light coating of snow.
Overall, the total snowfall from Monday and Wednesday’s systems could further add to the snowfall deficit in our southern counties.

Friday into the weekend, a low-pressure system will move out of Colorado and across the Central Plains. The northern extent of this system could impact Minnesota, but so far, the main track remains to our south.

We’ll need further updates as we get closer to that time frame.
