Severe storms are rolling through central Minnesota including the Twin Cities

Temperatures will be cooler Friday, especially in northwestern Minnesota but still relatively mild for most. Snow and some rain showers develop Saturday into Sunday.

Mild for most Friday; snow, rain showers Saturday 

While it’s relatively cooler Friday, it will still be above normal and mild for most. Highs will range from near 40 degrees along Interstate 90 to just around 10 in northwestern Minnesota. Those readings are still 10 to 15 degrees above normal for the southern half of the state. 

We’ll continue with temps in the 30s and 40s for southern Minnesota this weekend while northern Minnesota will see highs in the 20s. That means at least initially snow showers that develop Saturday could be mixed with rain. 

We’ll have two waves of moisture over the weekend.

Northern Minnesota, especially the North Shore, is still favored to see the most snowfall. Totals will drop significantly as you move south.

There’s a winter storm watch for the North Shore midday Saturday into early Sunday:

It’ll be colder early next week with highs in the teens and single digits. Monday night will see overnight lows fall into the single digits for southern Minnesota and below zero for northern Minnesota. None of these readings are anywhere near as cold as early last week. 

Highs Tuesday will likely be the coldest with highs near zero in the northwest to the low 20s in far southern Minnesota. 

We’ll also see a series of disturbances that bring mainly light snow Monday and Wednesday that could add up to cover the bare landscape for central and southern Minnesota by midweek. 

While not a huge amount of snowfall, we could see up to 1 to 3 inches between Saturday and Wednesday across central and southern Minnesota, whitening up the landscape.
