Our second January thaw of 2025 has reached three days in the Twin Cities and much of southern Minnesota.

Sunday’s high at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport was 35 degrees. Monday brought 38 degrees. We blew that away Tuesday with a record-tying high of 47 degrees.

We’ll hit a little temperature speed bump Wednesday with temperatures around 10 degrees colder across Minnesota.

Thursday brings near-record warmth once again. Highs will push into the 50s again in the south with 40s well into central Minnesota.

Thursday’s record high in the Twin Cities is 48 degrees last set in 1989. We have a shot to tie or break that record on Thursday.

Weekend snow chances

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Global Forecast System model still hints at snow from basically the Twin Cities north this weekend. Here’s the forecast model loop between 6 a.m. Saturday and noon Sunday:

This very early snowfall output should be taken with a giant grain of salt. It will change, but the notion of lighter accumulations in the Twin Cities with significant accumulations north seems plausible.
