A clipper system will bring light snow to the northern areas, with flurries likely south of Interstate 94. Temperatures will warm up into the 20s and stay there through the weekend.
Start of a warming trend
After our frigid arctic blast of more than 65 hours below zero last weekend, a classic winter weekend is on the way. Southerly winds will push temperatures back to the seasonal average in the 20s.
Light snow with accumulations of 1-3 inches is possible on Friday in the Northland. This clipper system will bring increased cloud cover and mainly flurries south of Interstate 94.

High temperatures on Friday will reach the mid-20s across western, central, and southeastern Minnesota, with low 30s possible in the southwestern areas.

Average temperatures start their seasonal rise
Climatologically speaking, Friday marks the end of our coldest two-week stretch of the year, with a high of 23 and a low of 8. This weekend’s temperatures will return to the seasonal average of 24 for highs and 8 for lows.
Temperatures warm into the upper 20s for both Saturday and Sunday, 30s possible for our southern cities.

Cloud cover and flurries will linger on Saturday with more sunshine expected Sunday.

January thaw ahead
As we tap into some Pacific air next week, temperatures will warm above freezing, kicking off our second January thaw. We’ll close out January with above-average temperatures and a few clipper systems moving through.
