A brief cold snap will interrupt our mild weather pattern, with Thursday's highs dropping into the teens and single digits. However, temperatures will quickly rebound, returning to seasonal levels Friday through the weekend. A January thaw is forecast for next week, with temperatures potentially climbing into the 30s and even 40s.

The weather pattern follows a familiar rhythm: two steps forward, one step back. After Wednesday's comfortable upper 20s, Thursday brings a sharp temperature drop. Northwest winds at 5-10 mph will make the day feel even colder, with wind chills dropping below zero.

With a northwest wind 5-10 mph, our apparent temperature will feel subzero most of Thursday. 

One more chilly evening as lows Thursday night drop into the single digits above and below zero with teens below up north. 

After Thursday’s speed bump, we will see moderating temperatures in the 20s for Friday. Our average high and low for this time of the year is 23 and 8, respectively.  

Friday will offer some relief, with temperatures moderating into the 20s—close to the seasonal average of 23 degrees. A clipper system will bring light snow to the northern areas, with 1-2 inches possible by late Saturday in the Northland.

After last weekend’s brutal scenario, Mother Nature is gifting us a warmer weekend. Highs warm into the 20s and 30s for central and southern Minnesota, with upper teens for northwestern portions. 

Saturday will feature more cloud cover as the clipper system exits, but skies clear out for Sunday.
