Winter’s brutal grip continues as temperatures stay below zero, accompanied by frigid wind chills ranging from 30 to 40 degrees below zero. Light snow is forecast to return midweek, along with a rise in temperatures.
Cold weather advisories and extreme cold warnings
The bitterly cold air mass persists, with cold weather advisories and extreme cold warnings in effect statewide.
Wind chill values ranging from 30 to 40 degrees below zero pose a significant risk of hypothermia and frostbite.
Temperatures remain subzero for Sunday in the single digits and teens below zero.
The coldest part of this air mass will begin Sunday night and last until Tuesday morning. Overnight lows will plunge into the teens and 20s below zero for Sunday and Monday night. Northern Minnesota may experience temperatures approaching 30 below zero in some areas.
Warmup with snow chances
A thawing period will start to arrive Tuesday with temperatures returning above zero. Seasonal highs in the 20s arrive Wednesday with the chance for some light snow. A clipper system may bring a chance for light snow, with minor accumulations less than one-half inch expected.
