Three killed in crash on snowy central Minnesota highway

Three people died in a two-vehicle, head-on crash on Sunday afternoon amid snowy conditions in central Minnesota.

The State Patrol said the crash happened just after 12:30 p.m. along U.S. Highway 169 near Mille Lacs Lake, a few miles south of Garrison.

Authorities said a pickup truck traveling south crossed the center line and struck a northbound SUV.

The Patrol said both people in the truck — driver Lee William Page and passenger Lisa Marie Brunes, both 59 years old and from Coon Rapids — died in the crash.

A passenger in the SUV, 51-year-old Kari Sue Hohansee of Remer, also died. The driver of the SUV was taken to a hospital in Baxter with what the Patrol said were non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities said road conditions were icy at the time of the crash. The State Patrol said it responded to more than 200 crashes on highways across the state over the weekend, along with dozens of spinouts and vehicles in the ditch.
