Another blast of arctic air will settle into the Upper Midwest, dropping temperatures into the single digits, with wind chills reaching the teens and 20s below zero. Our brief period of colder temperatures will give way to warmer 30s and 40s by the end of the week.
Cold weather advisory
A cold weather advisory will take effect at midnight Monday and remain in place until 10 a.m. Very cold wind chills, as low as 30 below zero, are expected.
Temperatures have been falling since early Sunday morning and will continue to decrease into Monday morning. Sunday evening lows will drop into the single digits below zero statewide, with teens below zero in northwestern Minnesota.

Chilly Monday and Tuesday
Single-digit highs will be common as we begin the week. Expect lingering flurries and cloud cover on Monday, with sunshine returning by Tuesday.
Arctic high pressure will shift southward mid-week, bringing warmer temperatures to the region as the work week ends. Highs will climb back into the 30s, with some areas of southwestern Minnesota reaching the 40s by Thursday.
Looking ahead, the trend is expected to stay dry and cold. The Climate Prediction Center indicates a below-average likelihood for both temperatures and precipitation for the 6-10 day outlook.
