Bitter wind chills early Saturday will contribute to a chilly afternoon, with temperatures staying 10-15 degrees below normal. A major storm system will pass to the south, keeping snow out of the forecast for now.

Northern Minnesota is under a cold weather advisory, with wind chills expected to reach around 30 degrees below zero.

Temperatures will struggle reaching the teens in the metro and southeastern Minnesota, while central and northern areas will experience single digits, both above and below zero.

Factor in a northwest wind 5-10 mph, wind chills will range from the single digits to the 20s below zero.

Arctic sunshine will be present for a majority of the weekend with high pressure overhead. Southern Minnesota could see some increased cloud cover. 

Minnesota is missing out on a major winter storm hitting the Central Plains. Parts of Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio are expected to receive over a foot of snow and a quarter inch of ice.

Cooler temperatures will persist into the work week, with a warming trend expected later in the week. There is also the possibility of a clipper system, though the main concern is whether there will be enough moisture to sustain it.
