Temperatures Thursday night will drop to the single digits with subzero north. We should see partly cloudy skies Friday with temperatures running about 10 degrees below normal.  

Colder-than-normal temps persist through the weekend into next week 

It’ll be colder Thursday night with more breaks in the clouds and even colder air sliding through the region. Overnight lows will be in the single digits south to single digits below zero north. Wind chill values will be below zero statewide. 

Friday will be even chillier with highs not reaching 20 degrees even in southern Minnesota. We’ll see highs mid-teens to just near zero northwest with partly cloudy skies.

The weekend will see very similar temperatures with highs mostly in the teens south and near zero north. Saturday will be brighter with clouds increasing Sunday. 

A storm system Sunday will stay mostly south of Minnesota thanks to our colder-than-normal pattern, which will persist into next week. 

Snow lovers are really having a tough winter again. Snow depth ranks in the bottom 1 to 5 percent across most of the state. 

To date, seasonal snowfall deficits range from 7 inches below normal in St. Cloud to as much as 22 inches below normal in Duluth. The Twin Cities is 11 inches behind.

Snow depth is just 3 inches in Duluth where average snow depth for early January should be 11 inches.

A clipper system next Thursday may be the only hope for any measurable snowfall in the future.
