Fog and clouds will again blanket the state Monday along with one last mild day. Rain and snow will develop for southwestern Minnesota and temperatures take a dive for all this week.

Fog, clouds, mild temps persist Monday; rain, snow southwest

It’s another foggy and cloudy day across the region. Visibility will remain low Monday morning and improve a bit for the afternoon. Dense fog advisories persist through midday Monday for many. The fog will freeze in many areas with subfreezing temps for most early Monday.

Highs will be mild again for one last day Monday, in the upper 30s south to upper 20s northwest. 

Southwestern Minnesota will see a wintry mix of light freezing rain, rain and snow showers develop and turn to all snow through Monday afternoon. This precipitation will largely stay south and west of the Minnesota River.

There will be some slushy accumulation likely in the southwest corner of the state as the rain turns to snow. 

Temperatures become progressively colder throughout the week behind that system. Highs by Friday will be just in the teens south to near zero northwest.

The colder pattern looks to stick around, too. We’re also monitoring forecast models closely for a potential storm system Saturday night into Sunday. It may stay south or migrate north.
