After a sunny Saturday afternoon, cloud cover and dense fog have returned for Sunday. Temperatures remain mild as we head into the start of the week, with more seasonal weather expected to arrive for the new year.

A thick blanket of fog is covering most of the state, reducing visibility to as low as a quarter mile in some areas. A dense fog advisory remains in effect until noon Sunday, although the fog and low cloud cover are expected to persist.

Mild temperatures persist despite the low cloud cover, with temperatures in the upper 30s and some areas of southwestern Minnesota reaching the lower 40s.

Sunday night, temperatures will drop into the upper 20s to low 30s, with teens and 20s in the northern areas. Dense fog is expected to develop again during the overnight hours.

Monday will mark the end of our stretch of mild, above-freezing temperatures. The metro area will see highs in the upper 30s as our next weather system moves southward. 

Southwestern Minnesota may experience a light rain-snow mix on the northern edge of the system, with minimal accumulation expected. 

Forecast remains dry Tuesday until next weekend. Our temperatures will continue to drop through New Year’s Day with teens back in the forecast for Thursday and Friday.
