Winter officially began at 3:21 a.m. Saturday morning, now we can look forward to longer days! It will be a chilly start to the season with highs warming into the teens across the state and some lower 20s possible in western Minnesota. 

The weekend ahead looks calm and quiet overall. Saturday night's low temperatures will remain fairly steady and may even rise slightly overnight, as warm southerly winds bring in above-average temperatures.

Sunday will feature temperatures in the 30s for southern Minnesota, and lower to mid-20s for central and northern areas, with light south winds. 

Our next chance for precipitation comes late Sunday into Monday as a clipper system moves into the Northern Plains. Light, fluffy snow accumulation of around an inch is possible mainly north of Interstate 94, with trace amounts expected south, including the Twin Cities.

With fresh snow on the ground, most of Minnesota can expect to maintain some snow cover through Christmas, but plenty of melting is likely next week. 

Forecast models show temperatures in the 30s ahead. Travel conditions across the Upper Midwest look great, with no major weather systems on the horizon.
