Chilly air has settled into place in the wake of Thursday’s snowfall. Temperatures will be below normal Friday and Saturday, but next week brings above-freezing temperatures.  

Chilly Friday and Saturday before warming 

It’s pretty frigid in northern Minnesota Friday morning — well below zero in northwestern Minnesota. 

We’ll see partly cloudy skies Friday with below-normal temperatures. Highs will range from barely zero in the northwest to near 20 degrees in the southeastern corner of the state. 

Look for another cold night with single-digit lows south and subzero readings north under partly cloudy skies and light winds.

Saturday will start to see 20s return to southern Minnesota as the cold air retreats. We’ll see a mix of clouds and sun and perhaps a few flurries.

Temperatures should reach 30 degrees or warmer in southern Minnesota by Sunday. 

A clipper system could bring snow showers to northern Minnesota late Sunday into early Monday. While we could see a flurry or sprinkle in southern Minnesota, this system looks to track mainly across northern Minnesota.

Northeastern Minnesota in particular looks to pick up additional snowfall of up to 2 to 3 inches.

All of next week looks mild with highs in the 30s for most of Minnesota. Those readings are well above normal for the last week of December. We’ll average temperatures of 5 to 15 degrees above normal across Minnesota. 

For example, highs on Christmas Day will be above freezing for much of Minnesota. Even near the international border, temps will be near the freezing mark.
