Light snow showers and flurries will be possible Wednesday as a quick moving clipper swings through. It will bring even colder air and wind for Thanksgiving and into the weekend.
Clipper brings light snow, flurries Wednesday and colder air behind it
It’s been a chilly couple of days but even colder air is on its way. A clipper system is bringing back more clouds and some light snow showers and flurries Wednesday. Most activity will be light as it moves from northwest to southeast through the day.
The best chance of any light accumulations will be mostly in northern and western Minnesota with less to the east and southeast. The system doesn’t have a whole lot of moisture and lift.
There will also be continued lake effect snows off of Rainy Lake and Lake of the Woods. There’s a winter weather advisory for northern St. Louis County through early Friday.

LOUIS COUNTY... * WHAT...Lake effect snow off of Rainy Lake expected in far northern St. Louis County near the Kabetogama and Namakan Lakes area. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches expected. * WHERE...North St. Louis County. Recreation spots such as Voyageurs National Park. This also includes the Boundary Waters western area. * WHEN...From midnight tonight to 6 AM CST Friday. * IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions that could impact the Thanksgiving morning and evening travel. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The heaviest lake effect snowfall is expected north of the town of Orr and across the greater Namakan and Kabetogama Lakes area, including parts of US Highway 53 near and north of Ash Lake. Up to 2 inches of snowfall still remains possible as far southeast as the city of Ely by Friday morning.

Highs Wednesday afternoon will range from the low 20s to the low 30s, which is actually only a few degrees colder than normal.
Behind the clipper, winds will increase again for Thanksgiving and it will be colder. Thanksgiving high temperatures will be in just the teens and 20s.
Blustery northwest winds will blow at 10-20 mph Thursday into Friday and that will create some wind chills.
By Friday morning wind chill values will be subzero nearly statewide and we’re likely to see our first night in the single digits for central and southeast Minnesota, including the Twin Cities, Friday night.
Temperatures do look to modify some by the middle and later parts of next week.
Minnesota’s drought continues to improve
The latest U.S. drought monitor came a day early thanks to the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday and we have more to be thankful for! The drought continues to ease across Minneosta.
Thanks go significnat November precipitation and the cloudy, cooler days keeping in soil moistures, severe drought has dropped from 42 percent of the state a month ago to now just 9 percent of Minnesota. A majority (57 percent) of the state remains in at least moderate drought however. The Twin Cities up to St. Cloud is now considered no longer even abnormally dry.
