Cold with lighter winds Tuesday. Even colder air arrives for Thanksgiving

It will be a chilly Tuesday but winds will be lighter. Even colder air is set to move into Minnesota Thursday and into the weekend ahead. 

Cold weather persists, and it’ll get colder 

It’s a frigid start to the day Tuesday with temperatures mostly in the teens and wind chill values in the single digits and low teens. We’ll see a mix of clouds and sun Tuesday, but highs will be subfreezing for most of the state.

Lake effect snows will fall not from Lake Superior but from Lake of the Woods Tuesday and Wednesday, affecting areas like Baudette and northern Koochiching County:

Snow showers will be moving off of Lake of the Woods into northwest Koochiching County today and tonight. A few inches of fluffy snowfall will be possible in the far northwest portion of Koochiching County from Birchdale on west.

Winds will be lighter Tuesday compared to Monday, mostly under 10 mph out of the northwest.

It’ll be another cold night with temperatures dipping into the teens to low 20s for the Twin Cities and southeastern Minnesota.

Wednesday will be similar but with mainly cloudy skies and the chance at some light snow showers or flurries as a quickly moving clipper system moves through the region.

There won’t be a lot of moisture but some light accumulation is possible in northern and western Minnesota mainly Wednesday into Wednesday night with flurries for many on Thursday.

Even colder air is moving in for Thanksgiving behind the clipper into the weekend. It will bring a several day stretch of below-normal temperatures.

Our second cold front will also kick up the winds Thursday from the northwest at 10-20 mph. Highs Thursday will be mostly in the 20s and even teens in the northwest.

Black Friday shoppers should bundle up. It will be very cold Friday morning with subzero wind chills nearly statewide.

High temperatures won’t likely get above 20 degrees — even in the Twin Cities — Friday and Saturday.
