Winter weather advisory northeast. Cold air blowing in Monday

Snow showers will continue in northeast Minnesota for much of Monday. Temperatures will fall through the day Monday as cold air blows in, making for a chilly week. 

Morning snow, rain showers with falling temperatures, windy Monday 

It’s looking like winter in northeast Minnesota with a fresh coating of snow. Up to 3 inches of snow has fallen so far in several spots on the Iron Range and North Shore.

Sprinkles and flurries continue to track east into eastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin, with snow continuing in northeast Minnesota where a winter weather advisory remains through early afternoon for portions of northeast Minnesota into northwest Wisconsin.

Additional snowfall of up to 1 inch or 2 inches is possible in the arrowhead region with snow showers wrapping up Monday evening there.

In total, some places on the North Shore will see up to 5 to 6 inches when it all wraps up Monday night.

Temperatures will fall throughout the day Monday, from the 30s in southeast Minnesota this morning into the 20s by evening with teens west. Northwest winds will blow at 15-30 mph, ushering in the colder air. Wind chills will be in the teens in eastern Minnesota and single digits in western Minnesota. The cold, dry air will allow sun to pop out Monday afternoon for the southern half of the state.

Overnight lows will fall into the teens nearly statewide with single digits northwest.

Wind chills by early Tuesday morning will be in the teens and single digits with subzero windchills in northwest Minnesota. Highs Tuesday will be subfreezing statewide but winds will lighten up some from the northwest at 5-15 mph. We’ll also have a mix of clouds and sunshine.

Even colder air moves in for Thanksgiving and into the upcoming weekend. Temperatures will be below normal most of the week into early next week.

Thanksgiving itself will be chilly with highs mostly in the 20s and teens. We’ll have partial sun with a few flurries possible also. As far as travel goes, no big storms are expected this week in the region, just a few flurries/light snow showers occasionally.

The second blast of cold will really drop temperatures for the weekend. Highs will be mostly in the teens, even in southern Minnesota, with overnight lows dipping into the single digits in southern Minnesota and into subzero territory for northern Minnesota.

Bundle up Minnesota, wintry weather is definitely taking hold at least for the time being!
