Innovative Iron Range landfill project tackles climate change, ‘forever chemicals’

An 80,000 pound landfill compactor smashes down trash at the St. Louis County regional landfill near Virginia, Minn., on Nov. 12. The waste releases heat as it decomposes which the county plans to capture to help heat a wastewater treatment plant. It's the first landfill in the state to use geothermal energy.
