Wet and gloomy weather is still with us as we kick off this new week. Our Monday begins with areas of fog — some dense — and scattered showers and thunderstorms. Expect a general one-then to one-quarter inch of rain.

This round of rain will exit the region to the east and northeast through Monday morning and afternoon while cooler and drier air is carried in on a northwest wind behind a cold front. Another low pressure system approaches overnight with rain that will move from southwest to northeast through the day Tuesday.

Many areas, including the Twin Cities, can expect one-quarter to one-half inch of rain from that round. Amounts drop off going northwest. We’ll look to the other side of a line from Alexandria to the Iron Range for areas that won’t see much of any moisture.

After Tuesday we should get a break from the rain until the weekend. There may be a few showers looking south and west Wednesday night.

Monday’s cold front allows a spread in high temperatures from 47 in Roseau to 58 in Minneapolis to a warmer 65 in Rochester.

Northwest communities that miss out on the rain Monday night will fall into the 20s by Tuesday morning. 40s will be more common for overnight lows going south and east of St. Cloud.

Tuesday stays cooler but seasonable with most of the region in the low to mid-40s. Daytime highs will gradually trend warmer over the rest of the week with widespread 50s by Friday.

Overnight lows will start to drop to near and below freezing beginning Tuesday night, particularly away from the Twin Cities metro area.
