Get ready for the coldest temperatures of the fall season so far next week in Minnesota.

Our extended summer lingers through most of this week, but a strong cold front will lead the coldest air mass of the season so far into Minnesota early next week.

The pattern change will bring widespread frost and freezing temperatures to locations in southern Minnesota that have not seen frost yet.

On the map below, check out the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Global Forecast System’s model temperature output between Thursday afternoon and Tuesday morning.

You can see how temperatures peak Thursday afternoon with more 80s across much of southern Minnesota. Then watch as temperatures cascade downhill through the weekend and bottom out in the 20s and 30s by Tuesday morning.
