At an MPR News Talking Sense event in Duluth on Thursday, Nov. 14th, 2024, Braver Angels co-founder Bill Doherty discusses how we can manage our emotions and relate to others in victory or defeat following the presidential election.
Many of us will be tempted by triumphalism if our side won and by spite and revenge if our side lost. Either way, Doherty says, we all lose, and our ability to govern ourselves in a democratic republic will further erode. But we do have a choice about how to show up in the wake of the election. We can be bridge-builders or bridge-burners. In this conversation, Doherty talks about how to repair relationships and move forward together after this polarizing election.
Talking Sense is an MPR News election year initiative aimed at helping Minnesotans have hard political conversations, better. To launch Talking Sense, MPR has teamed up with Braver Angels. It's a national non-profit with roots in Minnesota that helps communities talk across their differences.
