Warm temperatures are expected for Monday, ahead of a blustery, dry cold front that will move in Monday afternoon. This will bring a nice cooldown into the 60s for Tuesday, followed by another warm-up later in the week.
Beautiful, breezy Monday
After Sunday’s highs in the 80s, we have officially recorded 18 days above 80 degrees for September, tying the old record set back in 1908! With one more day in the 80s expected on Monday, it looks like we may break another September record. The National Weather Service has already confirmed that this past September was the driest and warmest on record.

Highs on Monday will reach the lower to mid-80s south of the St. Cloud area. Behind the dry front temperatures will cool into the 70s, even some upper 60s for northwestern Minnesota.
Behind Monday’s front, this Canadian air mass is very dry, with dew points in the 30s.

Despite the lack of moisture associated with the front, it is still considered a strong front. A wind advisory is in effect tonight for northwest and west central Minnesota. South winds are forecasted to be 20-30 mph, with gusts expected to reach up to 50 mph with the arrival of this cold front.

Fire weather concerns
Blustery winds and low relative humidity create a concerning recipe for fire weather hazards. The National Weather Service issued a Fire Weather Watch for multiple areas.
The National Weather Service in Twin Cities/Chanhassen has issued a Fire Weather Watch, which is in effect from Monday morning through Monday evening. * AFFECTED AREA...For Douglas, Pope, Stevens, Swift, Chippewa, Kandiyohi, Lac Qui Parle, Yellow Medicine, Renville, Redwood, Brown, Watonwan, and Martin counties.
Counties in northern Minnesota are affected as well; North Cass, South Cass, Crow Wing, Northern Aitkin and South Aitkin.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has updated their fire danger map, indicating that portions of northern and western Minnesota are now at a high to very high risk.
The forecast is trending dry once again as we wrap up September and begin fresh with October. Temperatures will fluctuate greatly this week. After cool highs in the 60s on Tuesday, we’ll rebound to the upper 70s on Wednesday, before a weaker cold front brings temperatures back down into the 60s on Thursday
