We’re living a bit like Hobbits in Minnesota this year. We’re getting a bonus second summer.

Our brief cool snap gives way to warmer temperatures once again this week. High pressure brings plenty of sunshine and southerly breezes. Temperatures will warm a few degrees as we move through the week. We enjoy warm summery afternoons and cooler autumn nights. Ideal for human comfort, as I like to say with my MPR news colleague Tom Crann.

Highs Wednesday will run in the 70s but approach the 80-degree mark across much of western Minnesota.

The rest of the week looks slightly warmer. Highs in the 80s will favor the western half of Minnesota. We could hit 80 degrees in the Twin Cities between Thursday and Saturday.

Here’s a look at forecast highs for Saturday afternoon. 

Our forecast looks sunny and rain-free through the upcoming weekend. 

There are signs of a cool front again later next week. But overall our mild fall weather pattern appears ready to linger into October. NOAA’s eight to 14-day temperature outlook favors warmer-than-normal conditions across our region.

A warmer-than-normal fall looks likely for Minnesota. However, a developing La Nina may produce a more rigorous winter ahead. So enjoy our blissful fall weather while it lasts!
