Minnesota has experienced a very dry start to September, but forecast models suggest several chances for rain with some areas of the state potentially receiving significant amounts. Meanwhile, Storm Boris in central Europe continues to bring record-breaking rainfall.

Rainfall deficit

For the first half of September, Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport is 1.48 inches below its precipitation average and Duluth is 1.70 inches below. With a shift in our weather pattern we will see multiple chances for rainfall this week. Some forecast models are showing more than 1 inch statewide and even up to 3-4 inches possible by next Monday.

Storm Boris causes flooding across Europe

Parts of central Europe are dealing with some of the heaviest rainfall seen in decades. Months’ worth of rain have fallen in the past 3-4 days. Different weather elements combined to create a "perfect storm" where very cold Arctic air collided with warm Mediterranean air.

This deep area of low pressure has brought torrential flooding and loss of life to the region. High pressure will start to move in from the north, finally providing some relief from the catastrophic rainfall.
