Scattered showers, thunder overnight; much cooler to end the week

A cool front will spawn scattered showers and some thunderstorms overnight. Behind the front, northwest breezes will start to cool things off Thursday but especially Friday. 

Scattered showers, thunder ahead of a late-week chill

An air quality alert for northwestern Minnesota is in effect until late Thursday morning as air quality is forecast to diminish through the evening and overnight. Moderate air quality is forecast tomorrow for southeast Minnesota.

It will be a mild overnight ahead of a cool front. Lows will be in the 50s north but well into the 60s south thanks to clouds and showers.

We’ll have scattered showers and a few thunderstorms push ahead of the cool front overnight into early Thursday. Rainfall generally looks to be on the lighter side except maybe northeastern Minnesota, which could see one-half inch or so.

There is a marginal risk (level 1 of 5) that one or two storms could become strong or severe. We are not looking at a repeat of damaging storms from last week.

Friday will bring highs just in the 50s and 60s, the coolest such readings for many since May.

That will set us up for a very chilly Friday night. Frost will be possible in northeastern Minnesota, and the Twin Cities will see its first overnight in the 40s since late May.

We rebound quickly with summerlike temperatures returning by Monday and most of next week.
