The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Storm Prediction Center has issued a severe thunderstorms watch including the greater Twin Cities area until 11 p.m. Monday.

Severe thunderstorms are feeding on deep tropical moisture with dew points near 80 degrees in parts of southern Minnesota on Monday.

Severe storms are likely in the Twin Cities any time after about 7 p.m. Primary threats are winds to 70 mph and hail to 2 inches in diameter. Tornadoes are possible.

515 PM CDT Mon Aug 26 2024 The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a * Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of Southern and Central Minnesota Western Wisconsin

* Effective this Monday afternoon and evening from 515 PM until 1100 PM CDT.

* Primary threats include... Scattered damaging winds likely with isolated significant gusts to 75 mph possible Scattered large hail and isolated very large hail events to 2 inches in diameter possible A tornado or two possible

SUMMARY...A small thunderstorm cluster should continue moving east-southeastward this afternoon and evening while posing a threat for mainly severe/damaging winds around 60-70 mph. Isolated significant gusts to 75 mph, along with large hail around 1-2 inches in diameter, may also occur. The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 40 statute miles north and south of a line from 45 miles west northwest of Mankato MN to 80 miles east northeast of Minneapolis MN.
