Did you know there are more than 15 synonyms for the word muggy? Every single one of those words could be one you would use to describe Sunday and Monday’s weather. 

A persistent cloud deck helped keep Sunday’s temperatures in the mid-80s. Our dew points still managed to rise to the mid-70s, with heat index values well into the 90s. 

Tonight our low temperatures will only drop into the lower to mid-70s, offering no relief from the heat. 

Tonight, northwestern Minnesota will see a slight chance for severe weather. Any storms that manage to fire up will pose of threat of wind and hail. These storms should dissipate by the early morning hours and remain confined to west-northwestern Minnesota. 

Excessive heat warning continues; severe weather for Monday

Temperatures on Monday will climb into the low 90s. Cloud cover will present early in the day with decreasing cloud cover by the afternoon hours. It will warm up quickly, with dew points expected in the mid to upper 70s, even 80-degree dew points possible. 

Our excessive heat warning continues until 8 p.m. on Monday. Look for heat indices in the 105-110 degree range. 

Storms will begin to fire up in South Dakota late Monday evening. Initially these storms have the potential for damaging winds, large hail and tornadoes. 

Once the system moves east and becomes more organized, the threat shifts to more of a damaging wind, hail and localized flooding event. Storms are expected to reach the Twin Cities area in the late-overnight hours Tuesday. 

Once the cold front moves through Monday into early Tuesday, we will see the return of northwesterly flow. Cooler temperatures push in with highs in the 80s on Tuesday and Wednesday, followed by 70s Thursday and Friday.
