Steamy air pushes back into Minnesota Friday, especially to the west. The weekend will be hot and humid with some spotty storm chances, especially Sunday night into Monday. 

Extended stretch of above-normal temps

Temperatures will continue a warming trend Friday. We’ll have plenty of sunshine with highs warming into the mid to upper 80s with some 90-degree readings west.

The hottest conditions Friday will be in the Red River Valley where there’s a heat advisory from 12 p.m. through 9 p.m. Friday. The heat index could near 100 degrees in the heat advisory area Friday afternoon.

Saturday looks to be the hottest day of the weekend on a statewide basis when many places could reach 90 degrees, or at least the upper 80s.

In addition to hot temperatures, we’ll have very muggy dew points through the weekend into at least early next week.

Combine those temps with dew points near 70 degrees and it will feel like it’s in the 90s.

Thunderstorms will be possible late Friday and late Saturday into Saturday night across northern and especially northwestern Minnesota.

There’s even a slight risk (level 2 of 5) of severe storms for northwestern Minnesota Saturday into Saturday night.

The best, statewide chance of showers and thunderstorms looks to be late Sunday into Monday. Storms will develop west and northwest and push across the state Sunday night. More storms could redevelop late Monday.

The heaviest rainfall looks to be in northern Minnesota where 1 to 3 inches could fall over the course of the weekend into early Monday with some locally heavier amounts possible.
