Heat advisory issued for southwest Minnesota and Twin Cities metro

As the summer heat intensifies, the National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Southwest Minnesota this afternoon and evening, extending to the Twin Cities Metro area through Sunday evening. This advisory underscores the need for residents to stay cool, hydrated, and informed about the weather changes expected in the coming days.

Tonight:

Expect a chance of showers and thunderstorms this evening, with a slight chance continuing after midnight. Temperatures will dip into the 60s, providing a brief respite from the daytime heat.

Sunday:

The sun will shine brightly on Sunday, driving temperatures up into the 80s to low 90s.

Sunday Night:

The night will be partly cloudy with a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Temperatures will range from the upper 50s to mid 60s in the north and upper 60s in the south.

Monday:

Partly sunny skies will prevail, with temperatures varying from the 70s in the north to upper 80s in the south. There’s a continued chance of showers and thunderstorms, so keep an umbrella handy.

Monday Night:

A cooler trend begins, with mostly clear skies and temperatures dropping to the lower 50s to lower 60s. This cooldown will bring some relief from the heat experienced over the weekend.

Tuesday through Thursday:

The weather will stabilize, offering mostly clear skies. Temperatures will range from the lower 50s to lower 60s at night, and daytime highs will be in the 70s. This period will provide a break from the heat.

As the heat advisory remains in effect, remember to check on vulnerable family members and neighbors, particularly the elderly and those with health conditions. Use air conditioning if possible, or visit public places like shopping malls or libraries to stay cool. Pets should also be kept indoors as much as possible, with plenty of water available.

Stay safe and stay cool, Minnesota!
