Our next wave of scattered spring showers and a few embedded thunderstorms slides east through Minnesota through Friday. The frontal system is producing showers and a few storms in western Minnesota late Thursday and will gradually slide east through Friday.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s FV3 model shows a few waves of rain and some thunder through Friday. The forecast model loop at the top of this post runs between 7 p.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. Saturday.
Rainfall potential
The heaviest rainfall zone with this system through Friday favors parts of central and southern Minnesota.

NOAA’s Global Forecast System model lays out areas of one-half inch of rainfall with a swath of 1 to 2 inches through central Minnesota just north of the Twin Cities:

Summery weekend
Warmer air will filter into Minnesota this weekend. A slight storm chance favors Saturday night, with a more likely deluge Sunday night.
Highs Saturday will run mostly in the 70s to near 80 degrees in the south:
Highs Sunday will push into the 80s in southern Minnesota:
Dew points will climb into the sticky 60s on Sunday. Get ready to feel some summerlike warmth and humidity.
