Freeze warnings: Wintry temperatures ahead the next few mornings
Widespread freezing temps into this weekend
Did we get a little spoiled last weekend with summery temperatures?
Well, this week’s weather pattern reminds us it’s still April. And we still live in Minnesota.
A powerful cold front is pumping in a respectably chilly Canadian air mass into the upcoming weekend. Temperatures are already in the 30s across northern Minnesota as of late Thursday afternoon.
Overnight temperatures will dip to near and below freezing across Minnesota Friday morning. The inner Twin Cities core inside the Interstate 494-Interstate 694 loop may hover a few degrees above the freezing mark, but most of the Twin Cities suburbs will dip to or below freezing Friday morning.

Freeze warnings are out for pretty much all of central and southern Minnesota.

* WHAT...Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 30 expected.
* WHERE...Portions of central, east central, south central, southeast, southwest, and west central Minnesota and west central Wisconsin. Locations within the urban core of the Twin Cities metro will likely remain slightly above freezing.
* WHEN...From 1 AM to 8 AM CDT Friday. * IMPACTS...Frost and freeze conditions could damage or kill crops and other sensitive vegetation.
The chill continues Friday with sunshine but a persistent chilly northwest breeze.
Saturday morning also looks frigid across our state.
Freezing temperatures are common across Minnesota this time of year. The average date for the last 32-degree temperature in spring at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport is April 25. There’s a 90 percent historical chance for the last 32-degree temperature by May 4.
