Showers shift north Wednesday with more wind; cooler into the weekend

More scattered showers mainly north Wednesday with gusty winds continuing. Temperatures will be cooler into the weekend also.

Showers shift north Wednesday with more wind

Much of central and southern Minnesota experienced significant rainfall Tuesday and Tuesday night. Through 8 a.m., the Twin Cities has officially picked up 1.66 inches. Redwood Falls in southwestern Minnesota saw 2.25 inches and St. Cloud in central Minnesota saw 1.98 inches.

Scattered rain showers will shift northeast through the morning Wednesday allowing most of southern Minnesota to mostly dry out. Another system will graze southern Minnesota late Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

We’ll have a temporary reprieve from the high winds Wednesday morning in east-central Minnesota as the low pressure center passes over head. Winds will increase again as that moves north, blowing at 15-30 mph.

Additional rainfall Wednesday and Thursday will be lighter than the amounts experienced Tuesday in southern Minnesota.

High temperatures will be in the 50s south and 40s north Wednesday afternoon.

Snow showers will also be possible north on Thursday into Friday and Friday night. Parts of northern Minnesota could see a coating of snow on grassy surfaces.

Friday will be chilly with highs ranging from the upper 40s south to just the 30s north.

This will set us up for a cold night Friday night and Saturday night. Northern Minnesota will see lows in the 20s with near freezing temps in southern Minnesota Friday and Saturday nights.

Temps should rebound to above normal readings, in the 50s and 60s early next week. We’ll also see the next chance of some rain showers Monday into Monday night.
