Soaking rain, thunder and wind pummeling Minnesota Tuesday
Wind-driven rain adding up fast; scattered thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon
Talk about April showers.
Tuesday’s storm system is aggressively pumping wind-driven rain, thunder and lightning across Minnesota. Some locations are already pushing an inch of rain. Some areas could record 2 inches by Wednesday.
Multiple rain waves are swirling around a powerful low-pressure system. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s NAM 3 km resolutions model shows the progression of rain cells Tuesday:
Overall rainfall totals of between 1 and 2 inches are likely across most of southern Minnesota by Wednesday.

Look for scattered thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon. Severe weather is not likely in the Twin Cities but some storms may contain hail and gusty winds this afternoon.
NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center paints a risk for severe weather across Iowa, with a marginal risk along the Interstate 90 corridor in southern Minnesota:
Winds will gust over 40 mph Tuesday afternoon.
It’s a chilly rain Tuesday. Highs will hover in the 40s and 50s in most areas.
