It’s the storm that keeps on giving.

Our latest snow blitz this Tuesday is still part of the same system that dumped heavy snow on Minnesota Sunday and significant rainfall Monday.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Global Forecast System model run from Sunday did a decent job in forecasting the change from snow Sunday to rain Monday and back to snow Tuesday around the Twin Cities.

The model loop below shows the same low-pressure system tracking toward Minnesota between midday Sunday and midday Tuesday.

Tuesday’s snow is winding down this afternoon. NOAA’s High-Resolution Rapid Refresh model shows the trend of snow fading as the system pulls away over Lake Superior through Tuesday evening:

About 2 inches of liquid equivalent moisture has fallen in the Twin Cities since Saturday. Much of Minnesota has received between 1 and 3 inches of liquid moisture with this system between all the rain and snow.

That should help ease drought conditions when the updated U.S. Drought Monitor report for Minnesota is released Thursday.
