Today in Fargo-Moorhead: Spring? Snow possible Thursday, Fargo Film Fest this week

Happy first day of … spring? Don’t bring out the polka-dot rain boots just yet: Wednesday’s high is 25 and Thursday evening we will likely see snow.

Rechargeable lithium ion batteries are showing up more frequently in garbage. As a result, local officials say they are causing more fires at waste handling sites.

“In the last month we’ve had two fires. Both have been caused by improper disposal of batteries. We run them over with the equipment and they burst into flames,” said Clay County Solid Waste Manager Corey Bang.

It’s been just over a year since the Asian and American Supermarket opened up shop at its new, bigger location. We checked in with the store.

A 35-year-old Red Lake woman is facing charges of child assault and neglect in connection with an Amber Alert issued for an abducted child last week.

In West Fargo, a day care provider has been sentenced to just less than one year in the Cass County jail “for neglecting young children in her care,” the Fargo Forum reports.

A 47-year-old man from Blaine died after his pickup truck crossed the center line of Highway 23 near New Town, N.D., hitting an oncoming semi, said the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

From the Fargo Forum: Police are investigating what they say is a “suspicious death” of a Moorhead child this week. Officers responded to the 1500 block of Belsly Boulevard for a medical assistance call. A boy found at the location later died at Sanford Hospital in Fargo.

The Red River Rainbow Seniors are meeting Tuesday night for a potluck social. LGBTQ+ seniors and allies 50+ are invited.

Fargo Nerd Night is Thursday. Icewind Brewing’s Bockfest is Friday and Saturday.

Toad the Wet Sprocket and Barenaked Ladies are coming to Moorhead in September.
