Get ready for another ride on Minnesota’s temperature roller coaster. Maybe we should name it the Polar Vortex.
We’re riding at the top of a little hill now and falling downward into the weekend, but there is a steep hill ahead early next week, and temperatures will soar into the 60s once again across the Twin Cities and southern Minnesota.
It felt like 2 distinct seasons across Minnesota Thursday. Springlike temperatures in the upper 40s and 50s felt good across southeastern Minnesota.
But it’s decidedly wintry across the northwest. Temperatures were in the upper teens and light snow fell across towns like Hallock, Karlstad, Thief River Falls, Roseau, and Warroad.

You can see the shades of blue on the map below as a wintry air mass favors the Rockies and northern tier.
Overnight temperatures will hover in the teens in northern Minnesota, with 20s in the south.
Friday and Saturday will be similar with sunny but cool weather. Highs will run mostly in the 30s and 40s.
Next warm wave
Our next warming trend begins Sunday. High temperatures back into the 50s will cover about the southwest half of Minnesota by Sunday afternoon.
By Monday and Tuesday, temperatures in the 60s will dominate southern Minnesota once again. The warmest day looks like Tuesday but we could be 60 or warmer in the Twin Cities next Monday through Wednesday.
There are signs of cooler weather, and at least a chance of snow for parts of Minnesota late next week.
