While southern Minnesota sees a bit of a warm up and more sunshine, northern Minnesota will see rain and snow develop. A red flag warning is in place for west-central and southwestern Minnesota.
Winter weather advisory northwest, red flag warning southwest
There will be quite the contrast between spring in southern Minnesota and winter in northwest Minnesota Wednesday.
The warm, windy conditions have prompted a red flag warning for southwestern Minnesota due to elevated fire conditions. In northwestern Minnesota it’s a winter weather advisory Wednesday into Wednesday night for snowfall.
We have two separate disturbances to affect Minnesota through Friday. The first one moves just north of most of Minnesota and will affect the northern portions of the state into Thursday.

Snow showers will fill in across northwestern Minnesota with a few rain and snow showers moving across central and northeastern Minnesota overnight Wednesday night into early Thursday.
Southern Minnesota will see more sunshine, though clouds will increase across the state. High temperatures will warm into the low to mid-50s south.
Winds will also increase, especially in western Minnesota Wednesday, becoming blustery from the southeast at 10-20 mph with higher gusts.
The wind combined with low relative humidity values Wednesday afternoon will create an elevated fire risk in southern Minnesota, but especially southwestern and west-central Minnesota where a red flag warning is in place from 12 p.m. through 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Relative humidity values will drop to as low as 20 to 25 percent Wednesday afternoon.
Snowfall totals Wednesday into Friday will be greatest in far northwestern Minnesota with much lighter amounts east and southeast.
The second disturbance will be mainly south of Minnesota but will clip southeastern Minnesota with some rain and snow showers Thursday night into Friday.
Cooler by week’s end; big warmup next week
We’ll be mild again south and east Thursday with highs in the 40s and 50s while it will be in the 20s and 30s in northwestern Minnesota. Friday and Saturday will be cooler statewide, mostly in the 40s south to 30s north. Those readings are still above normal.
Substantially warmer air is moving back in for early next week. Highs will be back in the 60s and even low 70s across southern Minnesota by Tuesday.
