Blizzard warning in Fargo-Moorhead: Heavy blowing snow, no travel advised

Heavy, blowing snow is active across the region Tuesday. A winter-storm-turned-blizzard warning lasts through 6 p.m. Roads are slippery and visibility is significantly reduced.

Two to 6 inches of snow could impact the area, especially north and west of Fargo.

The National Weather Service says wind chills may reach 25 below zero and could cause frostbite in 30 minutes.

Education impacts

School districts closed Tuesday include Crookston, Fargo, Lake Park-Audubon, Marshall County Central, Thief River Falls, Warroad and West Fargo.

Bagley, Fosston, Hawley, Moorhead and Red Lake Falls schools moved to online learning for the day.

Minnesota State University-Moorhead, the University of Minnesota-Crookston and North Dakota State University canceled classes Tuesday. Concordia College in Moorhead moved to an e-learning day. The University of North Dakota campus in Grand Forks was opening late Tuesday morning, at 10 a.m.

Travel impacts

The Minnesota Department of Transportation advised no travel on Tuesday morning across parts of northwest Minnesota.

The no-travel advisory included highways from Ada north to Crookston, East Grand Forks, Thief River Falls, Warren and Hallock.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said visibility was near zero in open areas. Transportation officials in eastern North Dakota also advised no travel along Interstate 29 from Fargo north to the Canadian border, I-94 west of Fargo, and U.S. Highway 2 west of Grand Forks.

Minnesota’s precinct caucuses start at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. The caucuses are a place to elect local party officers and delegates to the state convention. They are also a place for party members and supporters to present different ideas and issues.

Dr. Rebecca Cunningham, vice president for research and innovation at the University of Michigan, was chosen Monday to be the next president of the University of Minnesota system.

Events

Tuesday night’s Draw Club, a gathering of people who want to draw together, has been canceled. It is rescheduled for Thursday at the downtown Fargo Library from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Fercho Conference Room.

Wednesday is open mic comedy at the Cellar Comedy Club. Also this week: Check out another Peace Corps speaker eventtrivia night, a soup and pie dinner and a benefit for trans people in the area.

Saturday: the Fargo Bloody Mary Fest, the Red River Winter Market, a silent reading party at the Moorhead Public Library, a big band jazz show and Dancefestopia 2024.

The Fargo-Moorhead Comic-Con is Saturday and Sunday at the South Fargo Ramada by Wyndham.
