We'll have some variety: 40s Sunday, 60s Monday, then PM flakes on Tuesday

It was breezy but unusually mild Saturday afternoon. The Twin Cities high temperature was 46 degrees, which is well above the average Feb. 24 Twin Cities high temp of 32 degrees.

Parts of west-central and southwestern Minnesota reached the 50s Saturday afternoon.

Above-normal temps will stay with us a few more days.

Temperature trends

Sunday highs will be in the 50s in far southern Minnesota, with 40s across central Minnesota and 30s in far northern Minnesota:

Metro area highs are expected to reach the upper 40s. Winds will be much lighter on Sunday than they were on Saturday.

Monday will be the warmest day of the coming week, with highs in the 60s across much of the southern half of Minnesota and mainly 50s elsewhere:

Far northern Minnesota will see some 40s.

Tuesday high temps will range from teens in far northwestern Minnesota to lower 50s in the far southeast:

A cold front will probably lead to falling temperatures in the Twin Cities metro area and southeastern Minnesota during the afternoon hours of Tuesday.

Twin Cities metro area highs are projected to be in the mid 20s Wednesday, followed by lower 40s Thursday and lower 50s on Friday.

Precipitation chances

Parts of northern Minnesota could see see patchy sprinkles or flurries late Saturday night.

Portions of northern and central Minnesota could see a passing flurry Sunday morning, then a passing sprinkle is possible anywhere in Minnesota and western Wisconsin Sunday afternoon.  

Far northern Minnesota has a chance of light snow late Sunday night and early Monday.

Tuesday snow chance

An advancing cold front will combine with a low pressure system to generate some snow Tuesday and Tuesday night. The snow is expected to spread from north to south during the day and then linger into Tuesday evening.

The precipitation could begin as rain in parts of southern Minnesota and the Twin Cities metro area Tuesday afternoon, then transition to a rain/snow mix or all snow by late afternoon and continue into Tuesday evening.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s North American Mesoscale Forecast System model shows the potential precipitation pattern from 3 a.m. Tuesday to 9 p.m. Tuesday:

Snow amounts are expected to be fairly low, but it wouldn’t take much snow to affect the Tuesday evening commute. Check forecast updates.
