Mild weekend temps; northern Minnesota could see some flakes Sat. night

Updated snow depth map for Minnesota

The average Twin Cities low temperature is 11 degrees on Feb. 10. The Saturday morning low temp at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport was 26 degrees. That’s close to the average Twin Cities high temp for this date, which is 27 degrees.

Metro area highs are expected to reach the mid to upper 30s Saturday afternoon. Much of Minnesota and western Wisconsin will see Saturday highs in the 30s:

Most of the northern third of Minnesota will have highs in the 20s.

Sunday high temps will be in the 30s in many areas, with some lower 40s in southwestern Minnesota and 20s in the far north:

Flake chances north

Parts of north-central and northeastern Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin could see a few light snow showers or flurries Saturday morning.

An upper level disturbance could generate patchy light snow in northwestern Minnesota late Saturday afternoon into Saturday evening. Patchy light snow showers are possible in roughly the northern third of Minnesota overnight. The chance of patchy light snow showers continues into Sunday morning in north-central and northeastern Minnesota plus parts of northwestern Wisconsin.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s North American Mesoscale Forecast System model shows the potential precipitation pattern from 3 p.m. Saturday to noon on Sunday:

Snow depths

The Minnesota snow depth map, which was released Thursday morning, showed little or no snow cover across much of Minnesota:

Parts of northern Minnesota had some snow on the ground. The green-shaded areas had between 4 and 8 inches of snow cover, with 8 to 12 inches in the blue-shaded portion of northeastern Minnesota.

Some locations in the northern third of Minnesota received 1 to 2 inches of additional snow Thursday afternoon into Friday morning.
