Our weird winter gets weirder on Thursday.
A low-pressure system moving into Minnesota Thursday brings scattered February rain showers and even a chance of thunder.
The system rides in on warm notes once again. Highs this Wednesday afternoon will approach record territory. The record high for Feb. 7 is 53 degrees (1987) in the Twin Cities. We’re already at 50 degrees as of this post time.
Thursday brings one more push of mild air ahead of the system, and highs should surpass the record of 50 degrees (2002).

Rain and thunder
Scattered rain showers on Feb. 8? That’s the scenario for Thursday. The atmosphere is unstable enough that there could be an isolated thundershower or two on Thursday.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Global Forecast System model shows you the scattered rain cells pushing through:
Most areas in southern Minnesota will pick up lighter rainfall around one-quarter inch, but there could be closer to an inch of moisture in northern Minnesota.
Snow north
Light snow will fall across northern Minnesota Friday.
Temperatures finally crash to more seasonable levels behind the cold front on Friday through the weekend.
