The Sunday high temperature at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport was 23 degrees. That’s equal to the average Jan. 21 Twin Cities high temp.
Much of the southern half of Minnesota and parts of northeastern Minnesota had Sunday afternoon highs of 20 degrees or warmer.
The last time the official Twin Cities high temp reached the 20s was on Jan. 11:

Temperature trends
Monday high temps are expected to be in the 30s in the Twin Cities metro area plus much of southern Minnesota and west-central Wisconsin:
Northern and central Minnesota will see a lot of 20s, with upper teens in the far northwest.
Tuesday highs will be in the 30s in roughly the southern half of Minnesota plus western Wisconsin:
Twin Cities metro area highs are projected to reach the upper 30s on Wednesday, followed by mid-30s on Thursday and Friday.
Above-normal temps are expected next weekend and unusually warm weather could continue into the beginning of February. Here’s the Jan. 29 through Feb. 4 temperature outlook from the NWS Climate Prediction Center:
Precipitation chances
Parts of northern Minnesota could see a wintry mix at times Sunday night into Monday morning. The wintry mix could include a combination of light snow, sleet and patchy light freezing rain or freezing drizzle.
A low pressure system passing to the south could deliver light snow to far southeastern Minnesota on Tuesday, with higher precipitation chances (snow and rain or a mix) in eastern Iowa and southern Wisconsin. A separate batch of light snow is possible Tuesday in northeastern Minnesota.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s North American Mesoscale Forecast System model shows the potential precipitation pattern from 4 a.m. Tuesday to 4 p.m. Tuesday:
Updated forecast information will be posted by the National Weather Service offices in the Twin Cities, Duluth, La Crosse, Wis., Sioux Falls, S.D. and Grand Forks, N.D.
Weather nugget
The 2023-2024 season snowfall total at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport stands at just 7.3 inches. Madison, Wisconsin has received a whopping 29.3 inches of snow so far this snow season.
