Light snow develops for southern Minnesota. Temperatures warm up this weekend

Clouds will increase Thursday and light snow will develop for southern Minnesota into Thursday night. Clouds will linger much of Friday, but the cold air finally departs this weekend.

Light snow is continuing to expand east across southern Minnesota. Most light snow will stay south of Interstate 94.

A winter weather advisory is posted that includes Pipestone, Rock and Nobles counties in far southwestern Minnesota into early Friday.

Snowfall amounts will generally be light across central Minnesota and the Twin Cities with just a dusting or so, but up to 1 to 2 inches could fall in portions of far southern Minnesota. There could even be some isolated 3-inch amounts in the far southwestern corner of the state.

Clouds will increase ahead of the light snow as well and temperatures will still be pretty chilly, mostly in the single digits Thursday.

Much of southern Minnesota and the Twin Cities area stayed above zero Wednesday night into early Thursday while northern Minnesota was still very cold.

Temperatures, however, will fall back below zero in the Twin Cities Thursday night after two nights of staying above zero, at least in the urban core of Minneapolis and St. Paul. Cold air will be reinforced behind the clipper system for at least a couple more days.

Highs Friday and Saturday will be mostly in the single digits, although southern Minnesota could reach 10 degrees Saturday.

The pattern will change to a much more mild one with well above normal temperatures all of next week.
