Breezy and warmer Tuesday. Record warmth and rain possible this weekend

We return to our abnormally mild December weather Tuesday

After a chilly 36 hours, milder air is returning Tuesday. Highs will be mostly in the 30s — above normal by nearly 10 degrees. It’ll be warmer this weekend with rain and snow possible. 

Warmer and breezy Tuesday, the start of a mild stretch 

After about a day-and-a-half of chilly but actually seasonable weather, we’re back into our familiar stretch of mild December days. It’ll be breezy Tuesday, but this time from the south. Winds will be blow at 10-20 mph pushing in warmer air once again.

Look for partly cloudy skies, though there will be increased cloud cover in southwest Minnesota. Highs will range from the mid 20s in northwest Minnesota to the low 40s in southwest Minnesota. Most of us will be in the 30s.

These readings are back above normal by about 10 degrees for the date. We’ll be gradually warmer yet in the coming days. High temperatures in the 40s will become more widespread Wednesday into the weekend.

A record high temperature is possible Christmas Eve in the Twin Cities if we surpass 46 degrees.

Our pattern will become more active this weekend, too, with a few sprinkles possible Friday. But the main event is Sunday into Monday and Tuesday as rain and snow develops. Rainfall could be significant, but there are many questions to answer yet on snowfall.
