Warm, dry Sunday; Thunderstorms possible west Memorial Day

Sunday will be a warm, dry day. Expect high temperatures across Minnesota and western Wisconsin mainly in the low to mid 80s. The North Shore will be cooler thanks to a breeze off Lake Superior. The Twin Cities should reach around 83 Sunday afternoon with clouds increasing from the southeast.

Any thunderstorm activity for Sunday should remain to our west over the Dakotas.

Wildfire danger

Warm temperatures and low humidities will lead to enhanced wildfire danger Sunday afternoon and evening, especially in northwest to central Minnesota.

Air quality alert

The sunny, warm, dry conditions will cause chemical reactions in the air to produce ground-level ozone. While ozone aloft protects us from excessive ultraviolet radiation, ground-level ozone is a health hazard for sensitive people. The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has issued an air quality alert for a large area of central to southeastern Minnesota from noon Sunday until 8 p.m. Monday:

Toasty Memorial Day

High temperatures for Memorial Day on Monday will be mainly in the 80s, although cooler along the North Shore again.

Thunderstorm chances will shift a bit eastward on Monday. Scattered thunderstorms might pop up in western Minnesota later in the day but are not likely to become severe.

Scattered thunderstorms after the holiday

Warm weather and a bit more humidity will be with us for the upcoming workweek. A rather disorganized weather pattern is likely to brew scatterings of showers and thunderstorms beginning on Tuesday and for the rest of the week. The ground and vegetation in much of Minnesota have dried out and could use some rain.
